A screw (screw) conveyor is an efficient transport device designed to move bulk, small-lump, pulverized and powdery materials. The main element of the screw conveyor is a rotating screw. This screw moves various bulk materials (including grain, oilseeds and their processed products) through mechanical transportation.

Standard screw conveyor, consists of:
- Steel pipes or gutters of a specified length and diameter, according to the quality certificate – the body of the unit.
- The length of the pipe with a rotating screw (from 2 to 15 meters).
- The diameter of the pipe or gutter for installing the screw part (from 159- 323 mm).
- A screw rotating in the chute, which ensures the movement of bulk materials;
- Receiving funnel – located at the base of the screw conveyor;
- Drive (gear motor or electric motor).

The principle of operation
A screw conveyor consists of several key components, including a drive (gear motor or electric motor), a rotating screw, a drive shaft with coils of a conveying screw attached to it, a chute with a semi-cylindrical bottom and a loading and unloading device. The bulk cargo is fed through the holes in the gutter cover and moves along the gutter when the screw rotates. The load shifts with the screw, overcoming gravity and friction against the chute. Unloading of cargo is carried out through holes in the bottom equipped with gates. Screw conveyors are usually used to move materials over short distances.
The main stages of the screw conveyor operation:
- The raw material is fed into the loading hole of the screw conveyor and falls on a rotating screw, which captures it with its spiral surface and moves it along the conveyor.
- The auger moves the material along its axis, simultaneously pushing it forward. As the material moves along the conveyor, it moves to the discharge port.
- At the end of the conveyor, the material is discharged from the screw through the discharge hole.
- The speed of movement of the material along the screw conveyor depends on the speed of rotation of the screw, the diameter of the screw and the angle of inclination of the conveyor.
The lower part of the screw must always be immersed in the moving bulk materials, which sets them in motion. For the continuous operation of the equipment, a constant supply of new batches of raw materials must be debugged into the receiving hopper.
